Connect Behaviour
Our Approach
The Connect Behaviour Approach: Rooted in Compassion and Collaboration
Our practice is guided by evidence-based frameworks that honour neurodiversity and prioritize safety, agency, and growth for all family members.

Foundational Frameworks
-
Neurodiversity-Affirming Practice: We celebrate differences and our strategies empower children to thrive in ways that align with their unique sensory, communication, and social needs.
-
Trauma-Informed Care: We integrate safety, predictability, and emotional regulation tools to reduce overwhelm and build trust. Consistent routines and clear boundaries are prioritized to create secure environments.
-
Attachment Theory & Intersectionality: Relationships are central to our work. We consider how cultural, social, and systemic factors shape a family’s experiences while fostering attuned, reciprocal connections.
Our Focus: Collaborative Regulation & Empowerment
We partner with caregivers to:
-
Understand sensory, social and cognitive needs and reduce triggers (e.g., overload from environments or transitions).
-
Develop co-regulation strategies that respect the child’s autonomy while ensuring safety.
-
Reframe "challenging behaviors" as communication, identifying unmet needs through a neurodivergent lens.
Goals for Families
-
Shift from crisis management to proactive support: Replace punitive approaches with skill-building, natural consequences, and collaborative problem-solving.
-
Strengthen self-determination: Foster environments where children exercise agency in decisions affecting their lives, aligned with their developmental capacity.
-
Build family resilience: Equip caregivers with tools to model emotional regulation, advocate for their child’s needs, and celebrate neurodivergent strengths.
